All fellowships listed below are part of the Summer Research Program. Each fellowship page gives an overview of the opportunity. When you’re ready to apply, all application instructions, deadlines, and faculty recommendation information can be found under the Summer Research Program Fellowship [URC] tab. Note: Applications are due by 5:00 pm (ºù«Ӱҵ time) on the due date.

Summer Research Program 2027: Information about the SRP 2027 will be updated in October. In the meantime, the info below is from the previous program year and is currently under review and subject to change. We’ve left it available to give you a general idea of what the program is like and how it works. If you have general questions about the program in the meantime, feel free to email us.

The 2026 program begins on Tuesday, May 26, and ends on Friday, July 31, 2026. The annual all-day SRP conference is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

ºù«Ӱҵ Research Fellowships

Argonaut Summer Research Fellowship [URC & English Department]

The Argonaut Summer Research Fellowship is awarded each year to a student in creative writing, who will work closely with the English department’s Writer-in-Residence on a creative writing project of their own design.

Eligibility: Preference is given first to English Majors/Minors and Creative Writing concentrators.

Additional Requirements: Students must submit a full SRP application by the deadline, and additionally submit a writing sample of up to 20 pages of fiction or creative nonfiction, or up to 10 poems.

Arnston Memorial Award Fellowship [URC & Writing Programs]

The Arnston Memorial Award Fellowship provides study awards to students working in any discipline to conduct faculty-mentored independent research involving essay writing as part of the College’s 10-week Summer Research Program.

Eligibility: Research must concern a significant dimension of the human condition, the state of human culture and community; or, any significant dimension of the challenges faced today by efforts to cultivate and enhance justice, community, and human flourishing.

Billington Summer Research Fellowship in U.S. History [History Department]

The Billington Summer Research Fellowship in U.S. History provides support for students conducting archival/primary source research in U.S. History to participate in the ten-week Summer Research Program.

Eligibility: History majors who have completed their junior year will be given some preference in the process. American Studies majors are also encouraged to apply.

Caswell Summer Research Fellowship [URC]

The Caswell Summer Research Fellowship provides study awards to students working in any discipline to conduct faculty-mentored independent research as part of the College’s 10-week Summer Research Program.

Eligibility: Students from the greater Los Angeles area. 

Deadline: February 2, 2027 by 5:00 pm

Gerken Fellowship [Politics Department & URC]

The Gerken Fellowship provides a stipend for full time summer research on a public policy issue of importance to Los Angeles or the United States for (1) financial support for 10-weeks of on-campus summer housing, or (2) funds for research related travel.

Eligibility: Juniors majoring in Diplomacy & World Affairs, Economics, Politics, or Urban and Environmental Policy.

George M. Schmiedeshoff Summer Research Fellowship [Physics Department & URC]

The George M. Schmiedeshoff Summer Research Fellowship provides support for students conducting research in Physics to participate in the ten-week Summer Research Program. 

Eligibility:   Funding priority will be given to Physics majors or minors.  

Deadline: February 2, 2027 by 5:00 pm

R. Winter Art History & Architecture Fund Fellowship [Art and Art History & URC]

The R. Winter Art History & Architecture Fund Fellowship provides support for students conducting research in Art History and/or Architecture to participate in the ten-week Summer Research Program. 

Eligibility: Funding priority will be given to Art & Art History majors or minors.

Deadline: February 2, 2027 by 5:00 pm

Research Early Access Program (REAP) [URC]

The Research Early Access Program places students with faculty in participating STEM departments in the 10-week Summer Research Program. 

Eligibility: Rising sophomores. Preference is given to given to students who are the first in their families to attend college, and to students historically underrepresented in the STEM fields.

Deadline: March 16, 2027 by 5pm

Summer Research Program Fellowship [URC]

The Summer Research Program Fellowship provides study awards to students working in any area to conduct faculty-mentored independent research as part of the College’s 10-week Summer Research Program. 

Eligibility: Open to all continuing students at the College.

Deadline: February 2, 2027 by 5:00 pm

URF for Corporate Responsibility [URC]

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship for Corporate Responsibility provides study awards to students pursuing research related to corporate responsibility and socially responsible investing to conduct faculty-mentored independent research as part of the College’s 10-week Summer Research Program. 

Eligibility: Open to all continuing students at the College working on projects in the relevant area. 

Deadline: This opportunity will not be available for SRP 2027.

Faculty-Sponsored Research Positions [Individual Faculty]

Faculty-sponsored funding opportunities are available through external grants or independent funding sources to support student participation in the Summer Research Program. Contact us to learn more about current opportunities.
