Music that鈥檚 creative, technical, and collaborative

As a music major at Occidental, you won鈥檛 have to choose between being an artist and being a thinker. You鈥檒l learn to perform at a high level, write and arrange music, analyze scores, and use professional production tools. You鈥檒l also build the communication, collaboration, and project skills that will prepare you for any career.

Get one-on-one mentorship from music faculty on projects in performance, ethnomusicology, music history, production, or composition. Many students present work on campus, record their projects, or develop portfolios that propel them toward grad school or industry jobs. Music also offers more concentrations and areas of focus than any other department on campus.

Performing ensembles at Occidental are open to all students, regardless of major. Take a look at some of the available options for you to pursue music at 葫芦影业.

Music pairs well with chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, economics, and Media Arts and Culture (MAC). Adding a second major or minor helps you deepen your creative practice, strengthen your analytical skills, and open doors to a wider range of academic and career paths.

According to some of my friends, the Music Department 鈥渘ever sleeps.鈥 One can easily spend a full week attending student and faculty events including guest lectures and performances. For a college of our size, the sheer activity of our department is incredible, with many events being student-led.
