Event Date: Nov. 4, 2026
Why does Hollywood love destroying Los Angeles? From earthquakes and alien invasions to nuclear annihilation and apocalyptic fire, filmmakers have repeatedly imagined the city鈥檚 spectacular destruction. Drawing from his new book Los Angeles and Film: A Cultural History of 20th Century Hollywood, MAC Prof. John Trafton explores how disaster movies transform the city鈥檚 landmarks, landscapes, anxieties, and histories into cinematic spectacle.
